TV Tokyo planning to elevate the Gintama brand to global status

JULY 21, 2025

An earning report arrived from TV Tokyo, the TV station known for broadcasting the Gintama anime (and soon the 3nen Zgumi Ginpachi Sensei anime as well), which brought news that might bring benefits to the Gintama franchise in the near future.

The subsidiary, whose international popularity is partly due the several anime adaptations they’ve published over the decades, reported that they intend to expand upon their IPs globally beyond already well-known titles such as NARUTO, with Gintama being among the anime included in their business plan. Lifting up more recognized IPs serves as a means of increasing their anime business overseas, and make some of these series more accessible to a new, wider audience.

Given that the Gintama anime is already finished, this could well be referring to the Ginpachi Sensei spin-off, which is set to release on the same channel this coming October, as the latter is branded and promoted as a “Gintama multiverse anime”. This is what they most likely might be referring to, though, as the main series is still very popular, new anime movies adapted from the anime’s story arcs, live actions or even possible original stories from within the series’ universe, aren’t out of the question. And, depending on the success, there could be a chance its success may lead to the continuation of the English manga which has been discontinued ever since 2011.

Time will tell how the future of the series in other continents will turn out, but hopefully, it’s for the best.
