The official ranking of the top 20 characters in the Gintama All Character Popularity Poll, which was initially revealed in August, has been released today on the Shonen Jump Youtube Channel. As revealed at the time, the poll recorded a total of 1,000,000 votes. Here is the ranking:

Thanks to your support, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Gintama and will once again be holding a torture exhibition of the dirtiest manga manuscripts in Japan, exposed to the public eye. Thank you very much.
The manga world has been rapidly moving toward remote work and digitalization since the Corona pandemic.
I, who used to be an analog-oriented person, finally decided to make up my mind and introduced PCs, pen tablets, and other digital equipments, and now I am currently fishing for erotic videos in the latest digital environment. I’m currently using the latest digital environment to catch up on the bad reviews of manga that are selling well.
I’m not making any progress on my new work.
Because of this, I think there will be fewer opportunities to see manuscripts with cut-and-paste, revision marks, and traces of a weekly serialization, like the ones of Gintama in the future. If you are interested, we recommend that you take a look at it while you still can.
I would also like to thank everyone who participated in the character popularity poll. I was very happy that so many people have not forgotten about the Gintama characters even though it has been 5 years since the end of the serialization. And I once again realized: Shinpachi is still in 8th position, and when you put the 8 horizontally, you get “∞”.
The new message seems to heavily imply there might be a new series in the work by the gorilla, however it hasn’t progressed all that much. Meaning it’ll be a while before an official statement on a new project will be released.
A new promotional video has also been released for the upcoming event. The Gintama 20th Anniversary Exhibition will begin on December 14, 2024.
